A type of "new media" that doesn't currently exist is using the model of real time reporting on airport security lines at airports. Recently, I've gone on a few international trips and I always arrive 3 hours early in fear of missing my flight. With the idea of people reporting real time how long the security line is before I get to the airport, I can see if I can arrive to the airport later or earlier than I need to. Sometimes the lines could be bad or the lines could be really fast with one causing you to wait for hours and the other giving you the risk to miss your flight. With an app like this, you can see how bad the lines are ahead of time and really plan when to get to the airport.

  1. I think this is a great idea! I agree that one of the struggles with traveling is knowing how early to start heading to the airport without the risk of missing your flight. We already have platforms such as Google Maps that provide real time updates on traffic, so it seems like this really could be the next new thing.

  2. This is a great idea, similar to waitlists for restaurants where you can see the estimated wait time and also how many parties are ahead of you. As a paranoid person, I often arrive to the airport way too early even though i have TSA Precheck because you never know what could go wrong while going through TSA! Not everyone has TSA Precheck so this would really help people gauge how much time they have to get to the airport and pass through TSA to make it to their flight on time!

  3. This idea is great! Wait times at airports can be ridiculous and I'm surprised this doesn't exist already but I haven't really thought about it before. I think everyone tries to arrive early just in case there are problems but having this app would allow you to get real time updates about wait times and if you know it's not busy, you can just show up at a time closer to your flight. This is also good for people who are prone to being late!

  4. This is absolutely great; as a traveler myself, when I go to California, I try not to carry more than one bag if necessary. This way I can go on the plane without any extra time checking in other of bags. This helps ease my stress of losing any of my other bags I bring along. Also, when you check in there is not guarantee that the rest of your bags will be on the same plane as you. This is when your other bags end up in another city altogether. That is a frightening an experience as any I've dealt with. Then after you discover your bags are in another city, you have to go through the process of tracking them down (hopefully in a timely manner if at all).

  5. As a constant traveler, I understand your frustration of security lines. The worst has to be Florida. That airport is just ridiculously long. There have been multiple times I've had to cut through at least a line of 200-300 people saying "sorry I'm going to miss my flight". and when that's all over, you realize the gate is more than a mile away. But I wonder if 100 people are planning on making their way over to the airport and they al check into said app and see there is not wait lines so they all decide to show up 10 minutes before the flight, what happens then? you have 100 people piled up right before flights going out. Also, what security risk would the app impose? will this now also read there is k9 activity? I've also noticed they security constantly switches the way to clear security, some days its take off your shoes and out it in a bin, some days its put shoes straight in, somedays is everything in same bin, every item separate bin etc. I just feel that security should not be compromised for the convenience of time.
